Worth the Work

Frozen Banana Bites Are you physically fit? Do you eat well balanced, health meals? Do you exercise regularly? I used to be able to answer yes to all of the above until about ten months ago when I injured myself while running. My foot injury prevented me from exercising. Because I was over compensating for the pain in my right foot, I put more stress and strain on my left foot, causing an old ankle injury to start hurting again. With both feet compromised, exercise was out of the question. I've always loved to cook. When I was [...]

Are you in the dark?

How have you adjusted to the Day Light Savings Time change? Do like it or does it take you all winter to get used to it? I much prefer to have more daylight, I find it hard to start and end my day in the dark. It really puts a damper on my running schedule. It's dark and cold in the morning and then it gets dark in the early evening. I used to be a morning runner; however, temperatures alone have cause me to shift to the later part of the day . Did I mention I hate cold [...]

Are you ready for the big game?

Do you work out at all? Walk? Run? Yoga? Pilates? Crossfit? There are so many options out there today to stay in shape. I am here to tell you, all workout programs are not the same; however, doing anything is better than doing nothing. God created our bodies in His image [Genesis 1:26]. He tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. You wouldn't invite God into a run down, nasty house and expect Him to live there. We need to keep that in mind and treat our bodies well. Up until [...]

What does your route look like?

A photo from my run at Holden Beach, North Carolina. Have you been on vacation yet? I had the opportunity this past week to go to Holden Beach with both of my brothers and their families and my parents. Because we're spread out across the country, this was the first time in five years we've been together. It was fun to have some quality time with everyone. Since I haven't done much running since recovering from plantar faciitis and I have a 5K coming up, I knew it would be important to continue with my training. I stuck to the [...]

Victim or Victor?

Do you have a fire escape plan? In fifth grade the fire lady used to come to our class and talk about fire safety. I'm sure she had a name other than fire lady, but that's who she was to me. She told us it was important to have a fire escape plan at home and to practice them. By having fire drills if the real event ever happened, we'd know exactly what to do because we would have prepared for it. Sports teams have drills and practice their skills so when they're in the stress of a game, they'll [...]

What do you see?

Are you a runner?  As I've said before, I am not.  It is nearly killing me trying to get to where I can run a 5K with my son without dying the moment I cross the finish line.  I've had to overcome some bizarre obstacles along the way, like developing strep in my ankle. It was impossible to run at all for three weeks after I'd only been running for three weeks.  I had to start all over again, but I refused to give up. This past week I was volunteering at a student summer camp, which meant I wasn't [...]
