ARE YOU IN IN HOT PURSUIT?

Thanksgiving Day Gobble Jog 2014 How was your weekend? Did you do anything fall-ish and fun? I love the changing of the seasons. It is a reminder of God's faithfulness. No matter what we're going through, God won't leave us there. He loves us too much to allow us to get stagnant in any situation. One of the highlights of my weekend was our Sunday worship service. We had a full service dedicated to worship - no preaching, just worship, prayer, and the reading of the Word. It was powerful. One of the songs we [...]

How does it happen?

Have you ever seen a pimp? Probably not that you know of, but pimps come in all shapes and sizes. You could walk right by one and not know it. I've come across cases where pimps have been family members, men, women, couples, gangs, and even classmates. Pimps don't walk around wearing a t-shirt that says, I'm a pimp and I plan to sell your body ten to thirty times a night to be raped and I'll keep all the money." They also don't have horns growing out of their head. They look like your average person. They blend in with [...]

Come Out of Hiding!

Who are your people? Do you surround yourself with people who are all like you? Or are you one to seek out those who are different? People can be different from you in a variety of ways: musical tastes, faith, ethnicity, age, and even in their likes and dislikes. I have the most eclectic group of people my world and I love it that way. Some of my friends are closer to my mother's age than mine, yet others are the same age as my children. I have friends from a variety of different countries, which opens up a whole [...]

How 2 Teens Helped Rescue a Trafficking Victim

How can I help? What can I do?" I hear those questions more times than I can count in the fight against human trafficking. In many cases, it is followed by the statement, I'm just a ...." You fill in the blank. I'm just a mom. I'm just a school teacher. I'm just a dentist. I'm just a bookkeeper. I have yet to meet someone who learned about human trafficking only to throw their hands up , walk away and say they didn't care. Typically, the first time someone learns about it taking place in this country they're shocked. It's a lot to wrap [...]

5 Ways You Can Fight Sex Trafficking in America

MSNBC Sex Slaves Do you ever watch MSNBC? It is one of the few networks that boldly shines a spotlight on the issue of sex trafficking in America through their series, Sex Slaves. They travel across the nation, highlighting various cities where law enforcement is taking steps to crack down on the purchasing of sex. Sometimes, the target is the demand side. Law enforcement agencies set up sting operations and use undercover police officers to pose as prostitutes. Once a deal is made, the john- the [...]

Who are you really talking to?

Are you on social media? If so, which ones? Facebook? Twitter? Instagram? Linkedin? and the list goes on and on. When you read an article on the internet there seems to be an endless supply of social media networks available to share the story. Many people are connected on multiple social media sites and visit them all regularly. You can walk into many restaurants today and see a family of four sitting at a table saying nothing to each other, yet all communicating on social media. They've opted to ignore the people sitting in front of them and have chosen to focus [...]

The Best Marinade Ever!

Do you like to cook? It is one of my favorite things to do.  I love cooking on the weekends when we're not rushing in a million different directions. I can try new recipes. I like marinading meat overnight before putting it on the grill. By soaking in a marinade over a long period of time, the meat becomes infused with the flavors. This only happens when it is allowed to soak. If I only put the meat in the marinade for a few minutes, I won't taste a hint of flavor once it's cooked. The marinade will more than likely burn [...]

Will you speak out? Your voice matters!

Who is your cellphone carrier? Are you with Metro PCS?  AT &T T? T Mobile? Verizon? Today is the Call2Action, launched by Dining for Dignity, asking people to raise their voice for hope and write to Verizon, call them, and use your social media for public outcry. Let them know you're not okay with them making movies available to their customers that depict children being raped by their parents and similar type movies. To learn more specifics about this issue, you can watch this video: Or read this article, where Morality in Media said, lewd titles like, "I Banged My Stepdad," "Mom, [...]

Friend or Frienemy?

How many friends do you have on Facebook? How many followers do you have on Instagram or Twitter? Do you know them all? Could you pick them out of a crowd and name everyone? If you,'re like most people, you answered the last question with a resounding "No" because you don't have consistent contact with over half of the people you're connected with on social media. While social media is great, it allows us to communicate the same message to a lot of people at once, it gives us a false sense of relationships and connectedness, if that's a word. [...]

10 Steps to Keep Your Child Safe on the Internet

Social Media Outlets Do you leave your front door unlocked? Or are you the type that locks the doorknob, the deadbolt and sets the alarm whether you're at home or not? We have locks on our doors to keep unwanted guests out of our homes. We want to protect our belongings, but more importantly, the people we love. None of us would willingly open our front doors to dangerous people and invite them in to have their way in our homes, but it happens every day through technology. When we allow our children to get on the internet [...]
