Show me………..

Do you like the theater? I love going to plays and I especially love musicals. My favorite is My Fair Lady. No one has ever done it like Audrey Hepburn. She was magical as Eliza Doolittle. She's such a sassy character. One of the songs she sings in the play is called Show Me. The premise of the song is don't just say you love me, demonstrate it. Just in case you haven't ever seen it:   As my mama used to say, Actions speak louder than words." In James 2:14-18 he addresses the idea actions, however, he [...]

“If you request them, they will come!”

Are you planning on watching the Super Bowl this Sunday? Do you have a favorite team? I honestly haven't been paying attention to the teams playing. My focus on Super Bowl XLIX has been different from most. I've been focused on the impact it will have on sex trafficking in the Phoenix, Arizona area. While there are some people, some abolitionists included, who say events like the Super Bowl do not provide an increase of activity in the sex trade, news reports and rescue organizations seem to tell a different story. Whether it's the Super Bowl in Arizona or the [...]

Speak!

Are you familiar with idioms? An idiom by definition is: a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words." An example of an idiom is: The squeaky wheel gets the grease." It basically means, the person or persons who make the most noise get noticed. Today is Election Day, but you didn't need me to tell you so. If you're like me, you've received a forest full of trees worth of flyers and pamphlets from those running for office. Your phone has rung literally off the hook, thanks to call [...]

What would you say?

What would you say to someone if you knew your time with them was short? I remember the summer before my son went off to college like it was yesterday. He was so ready for college. Let's face it, he was ready for college in elementary school. He has loved learning his whole life. He loves adventure and the idea of having so many choices for classes and meeting a wide variety of people from around the country and world excited him. I remember looking at him one day and thinking, I only have days left with him before he's gone. [...]

How to mine for gold and ALWAYS find it.

Do you know a senior graduating this year? I know more than I can count. In fact, I have one in my home. The senior year of high school is filled with all sorts of firsts and lasts in life. It is also the year of the weening process, much life weening a child from breastfeeding. It is the time to push the baby bird out of the nest so he/she can fly on their own. One of the things our church does to celebrate the senior class is host a senior banquet just before graduation. It is a time [...]

What kind of unseen tattoos do you have?

Do you ever search on Google just for fun? A friend of mine gave me a cool word page and I wanted to learn how she did it. I searched on Google for a while, but then I just called her for the website. It's called Wordle and it is so much fun to play around with creating all kinds of cool pages. The way it works is you type words you'd like to have included in the design. The more times you type the word into the data collector, the bigger the word gets. So, for example, the word [...]

Have you told two friends?

Have you ever used Faberge shampoo? I wouldn't even be able to tell you what the bottle looks like if it wasn't for Google, but I can tell you about their commercials. The company's advertising team was brilliant. Everyone knew their commercials.       Even Saturday Night Live did a spoof on them with Mike Meyers as his character from Wayne's World, as Wayne Campbell. It's all about the power of words. You can help spread an idea or concept simply by passing on what you know. The more it catches on, the faster is spreads. It's like gossip. [...]

What are you saying?

Do you people watch? It is one of my favorite things to do. You learn a lot about a person by simply observing; however, there's still a great deal you don't know.  Too many times we make we make judgment calls on brief observations or incomplete information. We judge based on the world's standards and opinions. We all do it, even the most committed of Christians; although when we're walking closely with the Lord, we do it less often. This morning I ran across 2 Corinthians 5:16, So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of [...]

Be alert! It’s happening at home too.

Have you ever been on a mission trip? There’s usually a lot of preparation that takes place before the trip: personal prayer, fasting, building a prayer covering, as well as buying and packing supplies. A friend of mine’s daughter went to Kenya a year ago. They spent months and months preparing her and preparing their hearts; praying over her for protection, provision and to be used by God in mighty ways.  This year their daughter chose to go on a domestic mission trip to Miami where she’s working in the red light district, pouring into children and youth in areas [...]

Do you hear that?

What sound do you wake up to in the morning? Is it the annoying beep, beep, beep of an alarm clock?  I HATE that sound.  It honestly effects me like the sound of fingernails down a chalkboard.  In fact, a local radio station ran a commercial for a while with the beeping sound of an alarm clock in it and I'd change the station when that commercial came on so I didn't have to listen to it. This morning, I woke to the sound of birds chirping all around.  I came into my office and heard even more birds serenading [...]
