Lobby Day 2015: Raise Your Voice for Hope

Are you familiar with Lobby Day in Georgia? Lobby Day is a day set aside by the front line organizations in the fight against domestic minor sex trafficking where people come together as one united voice. The first Lobby Day I attended was in February of 2011.  The group gathered on the capitol steps to listen to various speakers about the steps necessary to combat the fight against sex trafficking in our state before tugging on the ears of those in the legislature. Since then the event has grown exponentially and the results of this event have been significant. There are [...]

It's FRONT LINE FRIDAY! How many of you have seen the bell ringers outside of Walmart, Target and such? Do you know who they represent? The Salvation Army. In Atlanta, there is a Salvation Army campus called the Kroc Center and housed inside it is Haven ATL, which is the anti-trafficking arm of their ministry led by Hillary DeJarnett. Their mission is: to reach, rescue and restore all victims of commercial sexual exploitation, so that the glory of God may be known." I first met Jeff in 2011, when Out of Darkness was an idea. Since then, he has established Out of Darkness and it has become a beacon of hope for victims of sex trafficking in the state of Georgia, as well as others outside out Georgia who contact them. End It Now!

End It Movement Do you have big weekend plans? Tonight I will be attending the End It Movement fundraiser put on by some Kennesaw State University students who attended Passion 2013. They couldn't just turn and look the other way after learning about human trafficking.  They chose to organize an event for their community, high school students and college friends.  They have a minimal cover charge to cover the food and help them raise funds for the movement.  There will be three different bands playing and I'll share about the issue and how people can get involved. Their hope [...]

Bring trafficking to an end in Georgia!

Luke 4:18 [KJV] Today is Lobby Day at the state capitol in Georgia.  I will be joining individuals from Wellspring Living, Out of Darkness, youthSpark, Street Grace, and others as we unite our voices as a voice for hope for the hundreds of Hopes held captive in the state of Georgia. If you cannot join us in person, please join us in prayer, as we speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves [Proverbs 31:8a].  Write and/or email your elected officials today, asking them to: Pass legislation that requires the posting of the National Human Trafficking Hotline number in bars, hotels, and venues where [...]

Speak Up!

What does it mean to lobby for something? Lobbying means to actively try to influence legislation on a specified topic.  It means to use your voice, be it in person, via mail or email, to draw awareness to an issue and ask legislators to do something about the issue.  It is our constitutional right and responsibility to let our elected officials know how we'd like them to vote. This Thursday, February 7th, is Lobby Day  in Georgia on the issue of human sex trafficking in America.  Men and women from across the state of Georgia will come together on the [...]

How can I help?

Are you involved in the fight against human sex trafficking? I have been excited and inspired by some of the people I’ve met across this journey: college students, fathers, mothers, young girls, survivors, all wanting to raise their voice for hope in some way. Last night I received an email from a dear friend in Augusta, GA.  It read, Just finished Rescuing Hope. Couldn't put it down. Could hardly finish reading through my tears, now what do I do?” She’s a wife of fifty plus years, mother and grandmother and sees a need to join the fight. Then I received a [...]
