Cup of tea, anyone?

My morning cup of tea. Did you ever get in trouble in elementary school? I only got in trouble for one thing, and its going to surprise you I'm sure. I got in trouble for talking too much. Shocker, right? Some things never change. My brothers were a different story. I won't tell on them today (they can pay me later), but I will tell on one of their teachers. When we were in school, back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, teachers could paddle their students. My younger brother, Steve, had a teacher, Ms. Sharpe,  who warned students when [...]

How to Make the Impossible Possible

The cookbook from my Southern Elementary School class. Photo credit: Rebecca Fleming Do you remember your kindergarten teacher? I never attended kindergarten, but I taught kindergarten. I loved my students dearly. They were fun. They were trusting. They were adventurous. I could have walked in the door and told my class we were going to climb on the roof and learn to fly and I think they would have cheered and followed me. They trusted me. They believed in me; therefore, they followed me. As a result, our year together was filled with fun and adventure. As [...]

Where were you?

Where were you? It's a question you can ask anyone on this specific date and they immediately know what you're talking about... September 11, 2001. It has been 13 years and still people remember it like it was yesterday. Some people received frantic phone calls from friends or family members telling them they weren't going to make it. The anguish they must have felt, the helplessness. I dare say there was a person in this nation that wasn't impacted in some way. Just within my little bubble of the world, the horror of it all threw one friend into early [...]

What do you believe?

Photo by Donna Kay Johnson What do you believe? Do you know? Could you defend or explain it if asked? 1 Peter 3:15 says, But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," With everything going on in our world today, it is important to know what you believe. You can't cling to what your parents or grandparents believe, or even what your pastor or best friend believes. You [...]

Who did you meet yesterday?

Do you have the opportunity to meet new people each day? I meet people from all walks of life and I learn something from everyone of them, whether they're survivors, doctors, lawyers or teenagers. Everyone has something to share if you're willing to listen. The more I learn about sex trafficking, the more I realize I need to learn. It is so multifaceted and there are many people to educate on the issue. While I know a lot about the issue of sex trafficking, I do not know a lot about the medical world. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to [...]

Many Hats!

Have you ever looked back over your life and laughed at how the dots have connected through the years?  Do you see how the many hats you’ve worn have led you to where you are today? I found myself doing this yesterday. It’s really ironic how I ended up walking life with girls who are survivors of human sex trafficking, lobbying for better laws to protect them, and speaking as a voice for hope on any platform God gives me.  I remember when I started doing research for Rescuing Hope I thought I’d research, write a book and move on; [...]
