On the Road Again………

Do you enjoy road trips? For me, it honestly depends on where and why I'm traveling. Today, I will hit the road to visit some of the Hopes I mentor. I'll visit four of my girls in two different states to check in, see how things are going for them and give out hugs along the way. One of my girls is graduating from a year long restorative care program. She has wrestled with God similarly to Jacob and is now walking with a new identity in Christ Jesus [Genesis 32:24-28]. It was hard at times, but she refused to give [...]

Which do you choose?

Do you people watch? Do you critique what you see or do you just observe? Many times people form opinions about others without ever getting to know them or learning the backstory about them. If I'm honest, I've done so before. I've formed opinions of others without getting to know them. I've also learned how far off the mark I have been. When I started working with survivors of sex trafficking I got to know them, their stories and their hearts. I've fallen in love with these young ladies time and time again. I've grown fiercely protective of them and have [...]

How does it happen?

Have you ever seen a pimp? Probably not that you know of, but pimps come in all shapes and sizes. You could walk right by one and not know it. I've come across cases where pimps have been family members, men, women, couples, gangs, and even classmates. Pimps don't walk around wearing a t-shirt that says, I'm a pimp and I plan to sell your body ten to thirty times a night to be raped and I'll keep all the money." They also don't have horns growing out of their head. They look like your average person. They blend in with [...]

Are you in someone else’s seat?

Do you remember the story of the Three Bears? I used to read it to my students when I taught kindergarten. It was always a favorite. The children loved how I'd read in different voices when I came to the line: Somebody's been sitting in my chair." They loved it when I came to the part of Goldilocks getting caught in baby bear's bed. They would giggle, because she got caught somewhere she didn't belong. How many of us are guilty of sitting somewhere we don't belong? Anyone? In truth we are all guilty of sitting in a seat that isn't ours....the judgment [...]

Front Line Friday!

Today is Front Line Friday and I have been asked by some of you to share my story, how I came to be involved in the fight against sex trafficking in America. So, in response to your inquiries, our front line guest is yours truly. I will keep to the general format of the day, answering some of the same questions I have asked my other guests. I hope you enjoy. When did you first hear about the issue of sex trafficking in America? It was May 2010. I was coming to the close of four years of workings for the Fellowship [...]

What does your label say?

Have you bought a new computer lately? This past weekend when I tried to pull something up on my computer, I found a black screen. There was no life left in the thing. It was plugged in and the battery had charged overnight; however, it still wouldn't turn on. Right after church I went to BestBuy to see what they had to offer. Fortunately, the sales associate, Stephen, knew practically everything about every computer they had available. He asked what I used a computer for and then took me right to the ones that would best serve my needs. My [...]

Is sex trafficking something new?

"Is this something new or are we just now hearing about it?" That is a question I get asked a lot when I speak about the issue of sex trafficking. Unfortunately, it is not new. It has been going on for a long, long time. Ecclesiastes 1:9b says, ...there is nothing new under the sun." This past week I met with a woman who heard me speak last month. She contacted me through my website and asked if she could meet with me. She said she had a story to tell. We sat down at Starbucks one morning last week. [...]

What are you doing about it?

How old do you think you need to be to join the fight against human sex trafficking? Should there be specific age to get involved? Sex trafficking is often called modern day slavery.  Girls in the trade are called prisoners or captives. Isaiah 61:1-2 says, The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day [...]
