Cup of tea, anyone?

My morning cup of tea. Did you ever get in trouble in elementary school? I only got in trouble for one thing, and its going to surprise you I'm sure. I got in trouble for talking too much. Shocker, right? Some things never change. My brothers were a different story. I won't tell on them today (they can pay me later), but I will tell on one of their teachers. When we were in school, back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, teachers could paddle their students. My younger brother, Steve, had a teacher, Ms. Sharpe,  who warned students when [...]

Do Your Part

Anything exciting happening in your world today? Any fun weekend plans? This afternoon I will pick my son up from college. He'll be home for a few weeks before taking off for a summer internship. During that time he'll try and catch up on sleep, connect with friends, and probably eat everything that isn't nailed down. He has grown into a very independent young man, very self sufficient. However he can become helpless pretty quickly asking me to do for him what he is fully capable of doing for himself... if I allow it. There are some things I will do [...]

What time is it?

Have the leaves started to change colors at your house? It seems to be taking a little longer than normal this year around here. I love the colors of fall. Fall colors seems to hold more shades than a Sherwin Williams paint wheel. And it's not just the leaves. The pumpkins and gourds people put out in the fall decorations are spectacular. When I was growing up all I ever saw sitting outside of someone's house was an orange pumpkin.  When I was a little girl one of the things I could always count on our family doing was taking a drive [...]

Look out! Danger’s lerking!

Have you ever been in a car accident? I've only been in one and thankfully, it was minor. On my trip to Kentucky and back, I passed multiple car accidents. Some were minor; however, others were not so fortunate. One accident I passed blocked all three lanes of the interstate and had traffic at a standstill for miles. There were multiple rescue vehicles present and it appeared paramedics were working on multiple people in the middle of the road. I couldn't help but think those people being attended to were somebody's brother or sister, someone's son or daughter. When I was about [...]

Take cover! It’s rough out there.

The Wet Rat Look (I'm starting a new trend.) Are you a runner? I think I've made it perfectly clear that I am NOT a runner; however, this summer I've been running to train for a 5K with my son who has been studying abroad all summer.  It has been a way to stay connected to him. I have forced myself to wake up early and run at least three days a week in preparation, rain or shine.  It's been easy to say rain or shine because it hasn't rained a single morning I was supposed to run... until [...]

Don’t leave home without it!

Nanny Are you a clothes horse? The kind of person who loves planning out an outfit for the day the night before, right down to your accessories? Or are you the kind of person that reaches in your closet and whatever your hand lands on is what you're going to wear? My grandmother, Nanny, was a sassy dresser.  Her outfits would coordinate down to her shoes and handbag.  In fact, shoes and handbags were her weakness. She always looked like a class act, as if she stepped out of a magazine.  As she grew older, she developed Alzheimer's [...]

What a week!

Hasn't it been a crazy week? First we were rocked as a nation by the bombing at the Boston Marathon and then the explosion of the fertilizer plant in Texas.  It seems like everywhere you go people are talking about one situation or the other.  Facebook has blown up with posts.  Some have been news stories and others have been declaration so of prayer for the victims of either catastrophe.  As a nation, we've felt raw this week. I came across a video clip of the explosion in Texas.  It was taken by a man on his cellphone.  He was [...]

How will you respond?

Boston Marathon Do you have any runners in your family? If so, the Boston Marathon bombing probably hit a little close to home for you.  My younger brother, Steve, is an Ironman.  I've followed him in a race, cheering him on as he went.  I've been by his side, encouraging him along those last few steps, screaming for joy for him as he crossed the finish line.  My father has also run a marathon, where I've been there calling his name, cheering him on to the last step.  Never did I think either would be in danger of [...]
