Are you prepared to take a stand?

Are you standing firm in your faith? The phrase, take a stand, means: to take a position in opposition to someone or something; to oppose or resist someone or something." Many people today blast their opinions on Twitter and Facebook, simply based on what they've read online or what they've see others share. Few people take the time to investigate and find the source of the information to determine if it is accurate or not before speaking out for or against it. Yesterday, I had the privilege of listening to my daughter deliver a message to a youth group about standing [...]

Do you have a tool I can borrow?

Do you have a tool chest? Is it full or are you continually adding new tools to it? My husband bought a Craftsman tool chest because he had outgrown his smaller toolbox and needed a place to store all of his tools together. We all have tools we use in life. Some of us have tools like a paint brush, a guitar pick, a computer or even a chef's knife. What kind of tools do you use in your line of work? Last night I hosted a new Bible study in my home. We are using the book The Circle Maker by Mark [...]

Do you have an unopened letter?

Do you like sending cards or letters? I know with texting, emails, Facetime, and cellphones very few people actually use snail mail to communicate with others anymore. I personally think there's something special about opening a mailbox - one you can physically touch verses one online - and finding a card or letter from someone. It says you matter to someone. Someone took time and effort to either pick out the perfect card for you or took time to write out a letter by hand. My great aunt lived to be 100 years old before leaving this earth. She was [...]

What do you believe?

Photo by Donna Kay Johnson What do you believe? Do you know? Could you defend or explain it if asked? 1 Peter 3:15 says, But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," With everything going on in our world today, it is important to know what you believe. You can't cling to what your parents or grandparents believe, or even what your pastor or best friend believes. You [...]

The Best Marinade Ever!

Do you like to cook? It is one of my favorite things to do.  I love cooking on the weekends when we're not rushing in a million different directions. I can try new recipes. I like marinading meat overnight before putting it on the grill. By soaking in a marinade over a long period of time, the meat becomes infused with the flavors. This only happens when it is allowed to soak. If I only put the meat in the marinade for a few minutes, I won't taste a hint of flavor once it's cooked. The marinade will more than likely burn [...]

Have you seen the latest bombardment on social media of quizzes? They lure you in to find out Which Friends CharacterAare You? Why do we take these quizzes? Is it just for kicks? Are we that bored with [...]

What ‘cha reading?

Have you picked up a magazine or newspaper lately or read the news online? It only takes one glance to see our world is on a fast train heading south. Crisis Magazine shined a light on the reality that sex trafficking is as close as our backyard. Eye Witness News reported of a six week old baby being raped by an uncle while the child's mother and grandmother watched television in another room. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution's online site, AJC.com,  reported how Tiger Wood's half brother was possibly involved in a bomb threat. The New York Times reported how the [...]

You’ve Got Mail!

Do you ever get letters in the mail anymore? With email, texting and cell phones, a written letter seems to be rare.  It takes time to write a letter to someone.  You have to choose the right words to convey your message.  It's not like a text message where the reader responds immediately so you can clarify if necessary. You have to be intentional with each work you select. Knowing that makes a written letter even more precious. I have one letter that has meant more to me than I can say.  I've had it for years and I read [...]

Guess what I learned listening to my son’s music?

What kind of music do you listen to? I like contemporary Christian, country music, rock and roll, worship music, beach music, easy listening, and even some classical.  I would have to say, I am not a fan of rap music... well, that is until today. Much of the rap music out there today sings of the degradation and objectification of women.  In many cases the songs glorify pimping, drugs and violence. The survivors of human sex trafficking I know have shared how rap music was all their pimps played, much of it very violent in nature. This morning I grabbed [...]

Pack your bags?

Have you ever been on a retreat? There are all types of retreats.  There's business retreats, family retreats, planning retreats and the most common, spiritual retreats. It is a time to get away from your normal ebb and flow of life and focus on the Lord. Jesus was a believer in retreats.  Luke 5:16 says, But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."  Our lives are so busy.  Sometimes we meet ourselves coming and going we have so much on our plate. It is important to have time alone with the Lord to settle our hearts and step into [...]
