Have you ever heard someone say as Christians we are to be set apart or holy? In Leviticus 20:7 we are told “Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the LORD your God.” Have you ever wondered how you go about doing it?
The bottom line is you can’t. In our own strength, we cannot possibly make ourselves holy, set apart, or sanctified. However, with God’s help all things are possible [Philippians 4:13].
In John 17:17, Jesus is praying to the Father on our behalf. He says “Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth.” The Word of God is truth and it is by studying, learning and living the Word of God we become sanctified, set apart, holy. 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” It is through the study of God’s Word and the application of it to our lives we are shaped into Christ likeness. This isn’t a light switch reaction. It takes time, invested over time, to yield the result we desire. It’s not about following rules or doing things on a checklist. It is about learning who God is, who He says we are and building a relationship with Him.
Is it your desire to be holy because He is holy? You have all the tools you need. Grab your Book and crawl in your Father’s lap and share a story with Him. You’ll be amazed at what you learn.
