One of my daughter’s favorite shows to watch on television is “What Not to Wear” with Stacy and Clinton. She is very interested in the field of fashion design so she loves learning all she can from the current fashion experts. The most embarrassing time for the contestants seems to come when they are placed in the 360 mirror. They get a very clear picture of the image they are presenting to the whole world.
As I watched a show with my daughter I found myself wondering what it would be like to get a 360 view of ourselves from the inside…our heart. Would we be happy with the image we are projecting to the world if we could have the opportunity to view it from all directions, every angle?
In our society there is so much time, money and effort spent on the image we present to others. Some call it fashion and in the business or ministry world they call it branding. How much time and effort do we spend on our inside?
Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– His good, pleasing and perfect will.” As believers in Christ, we should appear different to the world. Paul didn’t mean we should have matching t-shirts or necklaces that denote we are a member of a club or organization. He was telling the Romans to conduct themselves in such a manner the world noticed a difference. He didn’t just tell them they should be this way, but he told them how to go about it, The same holds true for us today. We will be transformed- from the inside out- by the renewing of our minds. Our minds are renewed when we spend time alone with the Lord. When we read the Word of God and discuss it with Him, He teaches us what it means and then He gently points out where we aren’t cutting . He loves us as He shapes us and molds us to reflect His Word more clearly.
There is nothing wrong with being . Don’t get me wrong, I love a good day of retail therapy myself; however it is time for us to stop measuring if we are presentable by looking in the mirror and start measuring it by looking in the Word. God’s Word is designed to help us learn how to live a life of righteousness [2 Timothy 3:16]. God gave us His Word to help guide us in our transformation into Christ likeness. Open your Bible and take a deep, long look. Find out what you look like and see if there are any smudges you need to take care of before you walk out the door for your day.
