Do you want need or want something from Jesus? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to get it? In Mark 5:25-34 you find the story of a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. She was desperate for help. She sought help from every possible source she could find and nothing worked. The Word tells us “she endured much” as others tried to heal her. She spent all of her resources, she had nothing left, and she wasn’t better at all. In fact, the Word tells us she was worse.
How many times have you searched in other places to find what was missing in your life? Where have you looked for healing? Did you find a quick fix only to be faced with the same problem? Have you looked to Jesus?
This woman had exhausted all of her options and all of her resources. Jesus was her last hope, so she was willing to take a big risk. Because of her blood issue, she was deemed unclean and was not to come around others without shouting out “Unclean, unclean” so they could cross the street to avoid her. By failing to do this, she put herself at risk. Knowing the possible consequences, she let nothing stop her from getting close to Jesus. She thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.”
To be healed, it took determination and will power. It required a willingness to risk everything including her life. In order to touch Jesus’ garments, she had to be close to Him which required her to press in among the people. When she did, He noticed her.
Have you been close to Him lately? Close enough to reach out and touch Him. His desire is to give you good gifts [Matthew 7:11, Luke 11:13]. He wants you to draw close to Him [Hebrews 10:22]. He asks us to cast our burdens upon Him [1 Peter 5:7]. I promise you, if you will make the effort to draw near to Jesus, He will stop what He is doing and take notice of you. He will look at you with love and speak to your greatest needs and desires. You matter to Him.
