Do you ever think about all Jesus has done for you? This Sunday during worship, the backdrop for the words to “How He Loves” consisted of scenes from the Passion. As I tried to sing the words to the song, I found it difficult. My eyes were glued to the screen. At times, I wanted to turn my eyes away, because I didn’t want to watch the reenactment of my Lord being crucified….partly because it was so cruel and unjust and partly because I would have to face my sin brought it about.
As painful as it is to watch and remember, we cannot ever afford to look away. If we look away or push aside all Jesus did for us to spend eternity with Him, we might start to feel like we deserve heaven. We might think we can act good enough or do enough to purchase our ticket into heaven. We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God [Romans 3:23]. There is only one way into heaven. In John 14:6 “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'” Jesus is the way. He and He alone provides our way to enter heaven.
We must all bend to His authority and do things His way to enter heaven. We aren’t God. One of my favorite lines from the movie Rudy is when Rudy is talking with a priest about life and the priest says “There are two things I know to be true. There is a god and I’m not him.” His ways are not our ways and we are called to do things His way [Isaiah 55:8].
The good news of this message is our entrance into heaven isn’t dependent on we can do or say. It only depends on Jesus and the relationship we have with Him.
I encourage you to take some time today to thank Him for all He has done for you. He loves you completely and His greatest desire is intimacy with you.
