Do you remember the song Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder? I grew up listening to Stevie Wonder (I know, I’m showing my age) and I couldn’t get that song out of my head yesterday. I could only remember the chorus and I wanted to make sure I had the words right so I went to Google to double check the lyrics. The chorus is: Here I am baby; Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours (You got my future in your hands). Here I am baby; Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours (You got my future in your hands).
If you think about it from a spiritual perspective, this could become the theme for Christianity. Here I am baby -because we must fully surrender ourselves to the Lord.
In Isaiah 49:16 the Lord says “See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.” God has signed our names on His hands signifying we are His. Just think about everything you do throughout your day. Your hands are constantly before you. You can’t help but notice them all day long. If we are engraved on the palms of the Lord’s hands, He can’t help but notice us.
Revelation 9:4 indicates those who belong to the Lord will have the seal on God on our foreheads. I love how the Lord chose the forehead to place our seal, identifying us as His. He could have put the seal on any part of our body but He chose the forehead. How many times a day do we look into a mirror and hear the enemy tell us something negative about ourselves. Yet, if we will remember we bear the seal of God on our forehead we’re looking at- HIS APPROVAL- then the lies of the enemy will lose their power.
2 Corinthians 1:10 says “He [God] has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us.” Nothing separates us from the love of God [Romans 8:39]. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us [Deuteronomy 31:8]. Whatever comes our way, the Lord will be with us and will deliver us.
The final sentence- You got my future in your hands- brings such peace. Jeremiah 18:4 talks of how we are clay in the Potter’s hands and He shapes and molds us into what seems best to Him.
I don’t know about you, but I just love it when the Lord takes something that isn’t submitted to the world as a scriptural teaching and shows me the reality of it in scripture. When we give ourselves fully to the Lord, He writes our name on the palm of His hand, He puts His seal on our forehead, He delivers us from anything that is out to harm us and He holds our future in His hands. Do we serve a good God or what?
Do you hear the music starting up, girls? Throw your head back and sing along with me. This is our Christian song of declaration…Here I am baby; Signed, Sealed, Delivered; I’m Yours (You got my future in Your hands)!
