While I have a favorite fragrance, I don’t wear it all the time. Sometimes I unintentionally carry the fragrance of where I’ve been. If I spend time in one of my satellite offices (aka. a coffee shop), I tend to smell like coffee. Tuesday night when I came in from my Metro Bible study, my daughter hugged me and said, “You smell like Starbucks.”
When we spend time with the Lord, others should know it. We should intentionally carry the fragrance of Christ everywhere we go. 2 Corinthians 2:14 says, “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.” Just as with perfume, the closer people get to us, the more pronounced Jesus should be in our life [2 Corinthians 2:15-16]. Isaiah 54:5 calls our Maker our husband. That being said, we should wear the fragrance that pleases Him, which is the fragrance of Christ.
When people encounter you today, will they be able to tell where you’ve been based on your fragrance? Will they know you’ve been in the presence of Jesus? If not, it’s not too late to change your fragrance.
