Are you a baseball fan? We are Braves fans in our house and we were sorry to hear about Tim Hudson’s recent injury. Sunday, the Atlanta Journal shared a story about how he would be out for the season, but he wasn’t down, thanks to the children and staff of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Hudson and his wife, Kim, have been strong supporters of the hospital and those treated there.
Many years ago our family spent some time at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta when our son, Sam, had club foot surgery on his right foot. I vividly remember the experience. We heard him coming down the hallway long before we saw him. He was in extreme pain. The surgery focused on the heel of the foot, full of nerve endings. The doctor told us while it wasn’t a life threatening surgery, it was one of the more painful ones they do.
I climbed into the bed, pulled him in my lap, and began singing over him. It grieved my heart that he had to suffer this way, but I knew it was only for a short time, a season. The end result would bring a huge blessing for him and far out weigh the temporary pain.
When he finally fell asleep, I turned on my iPod so I could listen to some worship music and settle down myself. Lord I’m Amazed By You played and I was completely blown away by how the Lord did the same thing for me that I did for my son. He held me and sang over me.
Zephaniah 3:17 says,
The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
…weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
Climb up in His lap and allow Him to hold you and sing over you during the painful part, because the blessing will follow.
