Did you have many trick-or-treaters at your door last night? I’d have to say we had a much smaller number. Either the children in the neighborhood have all grown up or they went elsewhere for the evening.
As I opened my door through the night, I couldn’t help but remember when my two were little and would get so excited about dressing up to get candy. To them, that’s all Halloween really was… an opportunity to collect candy.
I don’t know if you’re like me, but when the little ones come to my door, they load up on candy. I love to see the costumes. We had quite the variety last night. My favorites were a ladybug, a bumble bee, a pirate and Elmo. None of them could have been more than three years old and they deserved a load of candy if they made it to my door. We live on a fairly steep hill and for little people, it looks like a mountain. They have to work to get to the door.
When I see a little one making the trek up the hill, I’ll start my way down and meet them halfway. Then I set down the entire bucket of candy in front of them and let them pick whatever they want. Usually their eyes get huge because they can’t believe I’m allowing them to gather what they want out of the bucket. If Mom or Dad didn’t make the walk up the hill, I make sure they’re steady on their feet as they start their way back down.
God does one better than that for us. He is enthralled with us when we approach Him, because He loves us so [Psalm 45:11]. And as we start to approach Him, He starts moving towards us so we don’t have to go so far to reach Him [Luke 15:20]. He opens the storehouses of heaven to us, equipping us for whatever we are facing [Hebrews 13:20-21]. He gives us sure footing for the journey [Psalm 40:2]. And when the terrain gets hard or unsteady, we need not worry because He goes with us [Deuteronomy 31:6, 8, Joshua 1:9, and Matthew 28:20].
He truly loves you and desires for you to seek Him; not because He has a big ego, but because He has big love for you and wants to share things with you. He promises us such in Jeremiah 33:3,
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
As the attorney commercials like to say, “One call, that’s all!” What are you waiting for? He’s got the good stuff and He’s ready to give it to you. Make the call.
So true….He met me this morning, so faithful!
