Are they calling for inclement weather where you live? The weather center has indicated metro Atlanta may get hit hard again tonight. School systems are not going to be caught off guard this time. They’ve already canceled all evening activities for tonight in anticipation of the weather. People will be heading to the grocery stores and gas stations today in droves. It’s the old adage,
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
No one wants to be caught like they were two weeks ago, sitting in a car for 8-10 hours crawling down the road hoping for their house to be in their sights sooner than late. We’ve learned our lesson and we do not want a repeat of last time.
Do you take steps to avoid mistakes in life a second time? Or do you simply leave everything to chance and hope for the best. My daddy used to say,
Failing to plan is planning to fail.”
It takes effort to avoid making the same mistakes twice. It’s not just happenstance. The writer of Proverbs calls one who does so a fool and one who avoids it wise. In Proverbs 26:11 we read,
As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.”
I always thought that was a disgusting word picture, but the writer makes his point. If what you threw up unsettled your stomach the first time, then what on earth makes you think eating it again will settle your stomach? It’s just plain stupid. You’ll throw it up again, yet some people follow that path.
If you’re not sure what to do in a situation, then ask God for wisdom to make the correct decision. He’ll provide it for it. He told us so in James 1:5,
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
As you take steps to prepare for the approaching winter storm, ask yourself if there are steps you need to take to walk wisely in life.
