IS GOD CALLING YOU?

Have you ever been sitting in church when someone's phone goes off? It's both sad and funny at the same time. We've become so dependent on our cell phones that we don't ever consider going anywhere without them. Most people I know have let their land lines go and have become fully dependent on their cell phones. It's as if we cannot stand the thought of being unavailable to people. What about God? Would you say that you make yourself as readily available to Him as you do the everyone else who calls you? I believe God talks with us all the [...]

HELP! 911

Do you leave your cell phone turned on all night so you are accessible to people twenty-four hours a day? I do not. Due to the nature of my work with survivors of sex trafficking, I've learned I need to turn my ringer off at night if I wish to sleep. The girls don't intentionally call me late at night or in the wee hours of the morning; however, when I first meet them, they have their days and nights mixed up. They just pick up the phone and call or text when they have something to say. Most of [...]

When I was growing up there were Sundays when my family would pile in the car and take off on a Sunday drive. We would ride up into the mountains and enjoy the scenery or sometimes we'd ride out into the country. It was a way to pass the time by and because we weren't in a hurry to get anywhere in particular, it was relaxing, or so our parents told us. Reflecting back on it today, it was probably my [...]

Pimps aren’t stupid thugs!

Do you think you could pick a pimp out of a crowd? Not if you're looking for a guy in a big fuzzy hat with a loud colored suit on driving a jacked-up car with dice hanging from his rear-view mirror.  The picture from the 1970's television sitcom is what many people still carry around in their minds for a pimp. Today's pimp is smart, savvy and most likely well networked. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world today.  It is lucrative, hard to track and difficult to bust because there is very little paper trail [...]

You’ve Got Mail!

Do you ever get letters in the mail anymore? With email, texting and cell phones, a written letter seems to be rare.  It takes time to write a letter to someone.  You have to choose the right words to convey your message.  It's not like a text message where the reader responds immediately so you can clarify if necessary. You have to be intentional with each work you select. Knowing that makes a written letter even more precious. I have one letter that has meant more to me than I can say.  I've had it for years and I read [...]
