“Lady, what are you afraid of?”

Do you battle fear? Many people do and don't even realize it. I have recently picked up an old classic and it has blessed me beyond measure. If you haven't read Hinds Feet in High Places, I highly recommend it. There's even has a devotional out now based on the book. The story's main character, Much-Afraid, is someone we all can relate to in one way or another. She is afraid of many things. I have been blessed reading this and cannot recommend it enough. It is enriched with scripture throughout. This past week, I was in North Carolina to support a [...]

Do you have a tool I can borrow?

Do you have a tool chest? Is it full or are you continually adding new tools to it? My husband bought a Craftsman tool chest because he had outgrown his smaller toolbox and needed a place to store all of his tools together. We all have tools we use in life. Some of us have tools like a paint brush, a guitar pick, a computer or even a chef's knife. What kind of tools do you use in your line of work? Last night I hosted a new Bible study in my home. We are using the book The Circle Maker by Mark [...]

The Great Escape

Have you ever been to Serenbe Farms in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia? It is a quaint little farm with an inn and several cabins for rent. They have horses, goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs, chickens, and that was just what I saw while I was there. They also have a massive garden where they grow most of what they serve in their restaurants in the community. The community is made up of restaurants, boutiques, a general store, a school, parks, and residential homes, among other things. Two of my good friends share the same birthday, so we made the trip to Serenbe [...]

Make the call! Save a life!

Did you ever read the story of the Emperor's New Clothes growing up? It's a story by Hans Christian Andersen about a king who was duped into believing he was wearing the most beautiful suit of clothes when, in fact, he was stark naked. The weavers, who promised the emperor a beautiful suit of new clothes, said these clothes would be invisible to those unfit for their positions, those who are stupid or incompetent. The tale goes on to say people didn't proclaim what they saw, or rather didn't see, out of fear for themselves. These weavers were very shrewd and [...]

Fear or Fight?

What did you do this weekend? I had the opportunity to speak on the panel of experts at the Out of Darkness quarterly training. It is one of my favorite things to do, because I love this ministry and I am passionate about raising up warriors to join the fight against sex trafficking in America. As I talked with people at the break, it became apparent a big issue for some looking to join the fight is fear. There seem to be three universal fears people share: They're fearful they won't know what to do or say to the survivors. [...]

How cold it is? It’s so cold…

How cold is it at your house? It's currently 16 degrees outside.  Yesterday morning when I woke up it was six degrees. Six degrees! I almost had to get out a map of the United States to make certain I still lived in the south.  Last night I couldn't seem to get warm, so I finally pulled out my North Face coat I got for Christmas and put it on while I watched television. It's not that we keep our house polar bear cold. The thermostat was set on 68, but there weren't enough blankets or hot tea to get [...]

Who are you going to believe?

Do you have an older sibling? I'm blessed to have two brothers, one older and one younger. They're a huge blessing to me.  Don't tell them I said so, because they'd get a big head and that's all I need. We had our moments growing up, but they were always there when I really needed them and the same is true today. I've learned a lot from both of them through the years. One of the things my older brother taught me was what not to do. I'd see him get in trouble for certain things and knew I needed [...]

Look who crept in…

Do you enjoy yard work?  I don't mind it, it's just finding the time to do it.  I can't let it go but so long before I have to get out there and get it done.  This morning as I was looking out my back window, I realized the shrubs around the stone wall had to be trimmed.  They couldn't take one more day without attention. I gathered all of my tools and made my way in the backyard.  As I began to tend to the shrubs, I noticed ivy wound around the base of the shrubs.  I haven't planted [...]

Are you afraid of the dark?

Why do bad things always seem to happen in the dark?  We have nightmares in the dark.  Our mind takes us down paths we don't want to travel in the dark. We begin to imagine all sorts of bad things in the dark. The dark is the enemy's playground.  He thrives there.  From the moment the sun starts to set, he gets excited.  His number one toy he brings out to play with is fear.  Fear wakes us up at night and keeps us from going back to sleep.  We need to remember 1 John 4:18, There is no fear [...]
