Does it line up?

Proof that Nanny still has a strong influence in my life. Do you sew? I am doing well to sew a button back on a shirt, but my grandmother, we called Nanny, was a phenomenal seamstress, among other things. Nanny and I loved to shop together. I remember her taking me to the Limited, which was the store to shop back in the day. She had me choose something I liked. I picked out the most beautiful skirt. It was the trend of the day. I thought she was going to buy it for me and I was very excited. [...]

How are you? REALLY?

We're friends, right? This morning as I was having a chat with Jesus about you, yes you, and I found myself wondering what's going on in your life. Each weekday morning I sit with the Lord to ask Him what to share with you and today I realized I rarely hear from you. I know some of you read my posts on Facebook or other social media and respond there, and others will email me or text me about the blog post, but very few of you actually click on comment and leave a message there. I genuinely want to know what's [...]

Is it really dead?

Do you have a green thumb? Do you just plant things and they grow? My grandmother, we called her Nanny, didn't just have green thumbs, she had green hands. Everything she touched seemed to grow and grow and grow. Nanny would spend hours in the early morning outside tending to her plants. We used to joke and call her the plant whisperer. Her yard looked like the cover of a Southern Living magazine. Sometimes she would buy plants that were marked down because they looked like they were headed for the landfill and she would breath life back into them. Out [...]

Did you plan for it to go this way?

Do you have children? A friend of mine had her first yesterday. Before she gave birth, she told me how she wanted to have a natural childbirth, because her mom had done so with her and her siblings. I remember telling her, I know your plan is to do this naturally, but if you get in there and determine you can't, it's okay to have an epidural. Many people do. The important thing is to deliver a healthy baby." I wish I could claim to be a fount of wisdom, but my doctor said similar words to me when I [...]

What kind of unseen tattoos do you have?

Do you ever search on Google just for fun? A friend of mine gave me a cool word page and I wanted to learn how she did it. I searched on Google for a while, but then I just called her for the website. It's called Wordle and it is so much fun to play around with creating all kinds of cool pages. The way it works is you type words you'd like to have included in the design. The more times you type the word into the data collector, the bigger the word gets. So, for example, the word [...]

Have you told two friends?

Have you ever used Faberge shampoo? I wouldn't even be able to tell you what the bottle looks like if it wasn't for Google, but I can tell you about their commercials. The company's advertising team was brilliant. Everyone knew their commercials.       Even Saturday Night Live did a spoof on them with Mike Meyers as his character from Wayne's World, as Wayne Campbell. It's all about the power of words. You can help spread an idea or concept simply by passing on what you know. The more it catches on, the faster is spreads. It's like gossip. [...]

Is it a crime or just kids being kids?

Have you ever been bullied?  Bullying used to be done predominately on the playground in grade school or in the locker room in high school. You didn't hear much about it and it seemed to happen rather infrequently.  You could escape the bullying by avoiding those places as much as possible and staying with your own group of friends. Like everything else, with the advancement of technology, bullying has taken off explosively. Not only can people be bullied when they're at school or at a large gathering, but with technology, someone can be in the privacy of their own home [...]

Which way will you go?

Do you like a game plan? Do you like to know where things are going and what's coming next? It has been said, If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Right now there's a lot of planning going on in my house. My daughter is a senior, so she's in the midst of college applications, scholarship applications, etc. My son, who is a sophomore at Georgia Tech, is also filling out applications; however, his happen to be for summer internships. If you've ever applied to either, you know it can be a very stressful process. They're searching for [...]

What does the label say?

Do you have a label maker? I do and I LOVE IT! I'm an organizational freak. I like things sorted, categorized and labeled. I go to great lengths to make sure my filing cabinets are color coordinated and labeled clearly. When I taught school, I labeled everything. If you could read, you could fully function in my classroom without having to ask where anything was or where anything went, because it was clearly labeled. What can I say, I like order and organization; however, I don't like labeling when it comes to people. While I love labeling things and find [...]
