IT’S FRONT LINE FRIDAY with TrueNorth Freedom Project

It's FRONT LINE FRIDAY! I have the privilege of introducing you to Anne Kerr, founder and president of TrueNorth Freedom Project. I met Anne in 2010 when we were both just getting our feet wet in the anti trafficking movement. She was a volunteer with Not For Sale. From there she went on to be director of Out of Darkness for a season and since then, she's been called to tackle the demand side of the issue. You're going to love getting to know Anne.  Let's get started: When did you first hear about the issue of sex trafficking? In [...]

Front Line Friday!

It's Front Line Friday and I'd like to introduce you to Jeff Shaw, the founder of Out of Darkness. Their mission is: to reach, rescue and restore all victims of commercial sexual exploitation, so that the glory of God may be known." I first met Jeff in 2011, when Out of Darkness was an idea. Since then, he has established Out of Darkness and it has become a beacon of hope for victims of sex trafficking in the state of Georgia, as well as others outside out Georgia who contact them. Jeff has a passion for Jesus and to see [...]

What does the “X” mean?

Have you noticed people with a giant red X on their hand today? Do you have any idea what it represents? It is a statement. It is a declaration. It says, I'm in it to end it!" What is "it"? Modern day slavery. Seriously? Didn't we abolish slavery in the 1800s with the Emancipation Proclamation? Some estimate there are 27 million held in slavery today. Others say that number is too low. The Washington Post reported there are 30 million slaves in the world today and 600,000 of them are located in the United States.  How is that possible? How [...]

Porn, Strip Clubs and Sex Trafficking. Is there a connection?

What do you think men have to say about sex trafficking? I'm sure there are plenty who don't want to hear about it. They don't want to draw attention to it, because then they'd have to accept responsibility for their part in it. However, last night I had the privilege of hearing from several men who aren't only talking about it, but they've dedicated their lives to fighting it. Nor For Sale hosted an event with men in mind called Men: A Solution to Modern-Day Slavery. Other than state director, Emily Laney, doing a brief introduction, the entire evening consisted [...]

How could this possibly happen?

Have you seen the trailer for the new movie, 12 Years A Slave?  The movie is based on a powerful true story of Solomon Northup, a talented violinist who was a free man lured falsely from his family and home under the guise of employment only to be locked in the bonds of slavery.  You can watch the trailer here:  During Solomon Northup's lifetime, men and women were abducted in Africa, stripped from their country and brought to America, and many other nations, and sold into slavery. They were viewed as property, not people. Their children were born into slavery. [...]

Bring trafficking to an end in Georgia!

Luke 4:18 [KJV] Today is Lobby Day at the state capitol in Georgia.  I will be joining individuals from Wellspring Living, Out of Darkness, youthSpark, Street Grace, and others as we unite our voices as a voice for hope for the hundreds of Hopes held captive in the state of Georgia. If you cannot join us in person, please join us in prayer, as we speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves [Proverbs 31:8a].  Write and/or email your elected officials today, asking them to: Pass legislation that requires the posting of the National Human Trafficking Hotline number in bars, hotels, and venues where [...]

Do Something!

The Constitution of the United States of America Are you familiar with the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America? It states that, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." This was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified by the states on December 6, 1865. Yet, today, slavery still exists in America. President Obama declared January to be National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.  For the first [...]
