Whose boat are you in?

What is your pastor teaching on during this Christmas season? Our church finished up a study of the book of Acts yesterday. Pastor Tom shared from Acts 27 and 28 yesterday. He talked of how Paul was on a ship caught in a horrible storm and it appeared all was lost, including the lives of everyone on board. Paul stepped up to the plate and told everyone on board they wouldn't die. In a time when he was the odd man out, he was willing to step up and speak truth, even though the circumstances didn't point to the truth [...]

What shapes you? What makes you who you are?

Did you ever watch Mr. Rogers as a child? This morning as I signed onto Facebook to send out birthday greetings to friends, a clip from a Mr. Rogers episode caught my eye. The thought of that show takes me back to the living room of the house I grew up in on Saxon Court. I couldn't help but watch it. If you're a fan of Mr. Rogers, you can watch it here. The clip caused me to reflect on television shows and movies that impacted me as a child. I have always loved movies, whether on television or in [...]

ARE YOU IN IN HOT PURSUIT?

Thanksgiving Day Gobble Jog 2014 How was your weekend? Did you do anything fall-ish and fun? I love the changing of the seasons. It is a reminder of God's faithfulness. No matter what we're going through, God won't leave us there. He loves us too much to allow us to get stagnant in any situation. One of the highlights of my weekend was our Sunday worship service. We had a full service dedicated to worship - no preaching, just worship, prayer, and the reading of the Word. It was powerful. One of the songs we [...]

I HAVE A NEW BABY!

Well, if that didn't grab your attention, I don't know what will. NO! I am not expecting a child at my age. Thank goodness. But I did birth something recently. I have worked for over 5 years in the anti-trafficking movement and have finally birthed the nonprofit, Rescuing Hope, Inc. Those of you who have journeyed with me for a while now are not surprised by the name. You can learn all about the ministry by skipping on over to my new website here. I am so very pleased with the way it turned out. It conveys the message of [...]

Jared Fogle, there’s a connection!

What do you think  of when you hear the name Jared Fogle? Up until recently, you most likely thought of Subway. He went from being an overweight Indiana University student to the Subway spokesperson and some say cultural icon. He made his fortune by being the face of Subway for 15 years. While most saw Fogle as an ordinary guy who could easily be their neighbor, there was more to the story. Reporter, Rochelle Herman, gained her first glimpse of a story beneath the story when Fogle, married father of two, made a random comment, causing her concern. He told me that [...]

It’s all connected!

Do you ever take a trip down memory lane? Just a couple of days ago I was cleaning out drawers in my house and stumbled across several old photos. That good for a few laughs. You can read about it here. Clearly, this must be a memory week for me. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at chapel at North Cobb Christian School, where my children attended for their first few years of school. A lot has changed about the school. They've added buildings, a football team, a new entry road, and the direction carpool drives is reverse from [...]

Drop anchor!

The anchor from the pirate ship in St. Augustine. Have you ever been on a ship? I've had the privilege of going a cruise before. It was quite fabulous. This summer I had the chance to walk around on a working ship that is a replicated pirate ship. While the ship is fully functioning with bathrooms, a galley, and such, it wasn't a cruise ship. The thing that fascinated me the most about this ship was the anchor. It was huge, ginormous, to  steal a word from Elf. They told us how much it weighed, but I was [...]

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Sam at 3 years old. What did you want to be when you grew up? A superhero? A sports star? A musical sensation? Most children dream of world changing professions or positions that allow them to continuously do their favorite things, whether it's playing a sport or some musical aspiration. As children, we dream big and don't think anything is impossible. Then life happens. We grow up, get tainted by the pessimistic attitudes of others, and begin to feel pressure to make a certain amount of money to make ends meet or keep up with the Jones' as [...]

Don’t miss it!

Have you ever been on 285 in Atlanta? It is literally a circle around the city. It connects the major interstates as well as suburbs all around Atlanta. I will never forget the first time I personally drove on 285. It was the day we moved to Atlanta. Mark was in a car with a child and I was in the other car with a child. I was supposed to be following him to our new house. It was an emotional day for me because I had just left the city I'd lived in my entire thirty-one years to start [...]

Moldable?

North Carolina Pottery Do you like pottery? One of my favorite things about going home to North Carolina is the pottery. There is a town about an hour from my parent's house called Seagrove that is filled with potters, some of them are third and fourth generation potters. I have been many times and have collected some beautiful pieces through the years. Cagle's Pottery is one of my favorite places to visit. Their family has been throwing pottery on the wheel since 1791 It is quality craftsmanship. The white scalloped bowl pictured is from Cagle's. Another favorite of mine [...]
