How do you see it?

How is your day looking? I woke up this morning to snow falling. We haven't had a snowfall this year and it is quite beautiful as it falls. I picked up the phone and called my mom to tell her it was snowing here. Her response was less than excited. You see it was also snowing at her home in North Carolina. The difference? It snowed last week at her house and the they had sleet and freezing rain on top of it. All of the mess from last week finally melted and yesterday was the first full day they [...]

Got snow?

Are you a fan of winter? I'm personally a summer girl, but I always try to find the best in everything. This morning when I looked outside to see the white covering of the road and my yard slightly covered, I asked God to give me something positive to focus on today. Immediately, my thoughts went to Psalm 51:7, Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." [NIV] Have you looked at snow lately? If you live on the east coast, chances are you've seen some in the past couple [...]

More snow and ice. Really?

Are they calling for inclement weather where you live? The weather center has indicated metro Atlanta may get hit hard again tonight. School systems are not going to be caught off guard this time. They've already canceled all evening activities for tonight in anticipation of the weather. People will be heading to the grocery stores and gas stations today in droves. It's the old adage, Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." No one wants to be caught like they were two weeks ago, sitting in a car for 8-10 hours crawling down the road [...]

How are you carrying it?

Do you like quotes? I have a notebook of my favorite quotes. Some of them are from famous people, like Billy Graham, Mother Teresa , or Bill Cosby. Others are things friends of mine or pastors have said that hold a great deal of meaning for me, so I wrote them down. This morning I came across this quote by Lena Horne and had to ponder it a minute. It's weighty. It carries a lot of truth. I thought back to last week when Atlanta was hit by the snow and ice so quickly, leaving hundreds of drivers stranded on the [...]

God Sent Snow Angels

Were you caught in the snow last night? I was at Solomon House, the safe house where Out of Darkness takes women who are rescued off the street until they can place them in recovery centers. It normally takes me about twenty-five minutes to drive home from there, but last night, it took me 8 1/2 hours. The roads were complete gridlock. Not only did I have to navigate around and with tons of cars, but I had to think about the actual roads, where were there more hills, which road would be easiest to maneuver down. I could have [...]

A Year of Possibilities

Happy New Year! Do you have a new calendar up yet? Yesterday, as we were flying home from Pittsburgh, I realized I didn't have a new calendar, and I got a little excited about getting a new one. I always love getting a brand new calendar. There's nothing like a clean slate.  You don't have anything bearing down on you as urgent. The squares are blank, just waiting for you to write things on them. The opportunities are endless.  I love to take colored pens to my calendar, recording birthdays in one color and meetings in another. Don't make [...]
