Why you need to meet their need…

What are your needs? As I sit in Starbucks this morning looking at the line of people filing in and out of the front door, I think many of them would say they need coffee. When I was growing up we all knew we needed for our mama to have her coffee in the morning before seeing us or it was bad for everyone. I'm fortunate in that I can take it or leave it. I really view it more as a treat than a need, but others would say I'm crazy. What are your actual needs? The things that [...]

Does He Know You?

Are you a coffee drinker? It's become quite the rage ever since the onset of the Starbucks' coffeehouse movement that began after 1983. Today people meet and hang out in coffeehouses like they used to do in bars. You can read more about what spurred Howard Schultz to create the coffeehouse tradition here. I am funny about the coffee mug I use. It has to fit comfortably in my hand, not being too heavy to hold yet thick enough to keep the coffee hot. My favorite coffee mugs are not only highly functional, but they're stinking cute too. They're made by Glory [...]

How to REALLY Keep that Colgate Grin

Do you go to the dentist regularly? As a young child my parents instilled the importance of taking care of our teeth and having regular dental check-ups. As incentive to brush our teeth every day and avoid sugar, my daddy told us we would earn $5 each time we came out of a check-up with no cavities. Obviously, that was a hundred years ago when $5 would purchase you more than a cup of coffee at Starbucks. In fact, when I would get that $5, I felt like the richest girl in the world. I mean, think of all the [...]

Unique Coffee Shops of Spokane

When you think of coffee shops, what comes to mind? Is it your favorite cup of coffee or a favorite coffee shop? Starbucks maybe? On my recent trip to Spokane, Washington, I was excited about experiencing the coffee there. After all, Washington is home to Starbucks and said to have some of the best coffee in the country. The first thing I noticed about the area coffee shops is their  size and location. The vast majority of the coffee shops were more like huts than  shops. In fact, they're not much bigger than an outhouse. And you can literally find one on just [...]

Who do you prefer?

Have you ever traveled to the Pacific Northwest? I spent the last two days in Spokane, Washington speaking about sex trafficking and was different from Atlanta, Georgia. One thing I knew about Washington is they take their coffee seriously. Starbucks, the coffee shop that is most recognizable around Georgia and the world, was founded in Seattle, Washington. I expected to see them everywhere; however, while in Spokane I discovered a large variety of coffee shops, with Starbucks being the weaker presence. The majority of their coffee shops are honestly the size of an outhouse and they're drive through only. They're more like coffee huts [...]

She was a lot like you, until…

What do you think a trafficking victim looks like? Is bruised and beaten? Is she restrained some way? Chained to a bed maybe? Possibly, but more than likely she looks like the average girl you'd pass in a shopping mall. With the use of technology, the vast majority of girls and women trafficked don't stand on street corners, also referred to as the track, dressed as ladies of the evening. The Crimes Against Children Research Center stated, Much social activity is migrating to the Internet, so it should not be surprising that this is true for crime in general and [...]

Did you have a nice weekend? Do you do anything special? On Saturday, I took my husband on a surprise field trip to High Road Craft Ice Cream & Sorbet. He loves, loves, loves ice cream. This is a factory that is owned and operated by chefs who create the high quality, gourmet ice cream for chefs to serve in high end restaurants and gourmet food stores. They sell a very limited selection in Whole Foods , but nowhere near the selection they produce in the factory. They just recently opened a factory store where you can not only purchase the [...]

Do you have people?

Do you frequent Starbucks? I must admit that I have the Starbucks app on my phone because I'm in there so often. It's not that I'm loyal to Starbucks. They just happen to be on just about every corner in Atlanta. It's a convenience thing. I just spend a lot of time in coffee shops. I love local, mom and pop, coffee shops too. Coffee shops are a great place to meet people. They're a fabulous place to write because people won't disturb you but you have the buzz of life going on around you. I do remember a time several years [...]

Porn at Starbucks?

Are you a regular patron of Starbucks? I have to say it is a very convenient place to have a meeting. When looking for a place to meet for business or pleasure, there always seems to be a Starbucks close by. Yesterday, I had a meeting with a physician who read my book, Rescuing Hope, and wanted to meet with me to learn more about the issue of sex trafficking. She was familiar with it internationally, but knew very little about it domestically and wanted to learn more. I talked with her for over two hours answering her questions and [...]

Is sex trafficking something new?

"Is this something new or are we just now hearing about it?" That is a question I get asked a lot when I speak about the issue of sex trafficking. Unfortunately, it is not new. It has been going on for a long, long time. Ecclesiastes 1:9b says, ...there is nothing new under the sun." This past week I met with a woman who heard me speak last month. She contacted me through my website and asked if she could meet with me. She said she had a story to tell. We sat down at Starbucks one morning last week. [...]
