Jared Fogle, there’s a connection!

What do you think  of when you hear the name Jared Fogle? Up until recently, you most likely thought of Subway. He went from being an overweight Indiana University student to the Subway spokesperson and some say cultural icon. He made his fortune by being the face of Subway for 15 years. While most saw Fogle as an ordinary guy who could easily be their neighbor, there was more to the story. Reporter, Rochelle Herman, gained her first glimpse of a story beneath the story when Fogle, married father of two, made a random comment, causing her concern. He told me that [...]

I saw Jesus yesterday!

Have you ever been to a children's consignment sale before? It is a sale where people bring clothing, toys, furniture, and baby equipment to sell over a few days. Riverstone Church has held a semi-annual consignment sale called Born Again Blessings since the first year the church was established. The sale used to be held at the Cobb County Civic Center, however, due to remodeling they had to relocate the sale to the church.  I have been a part of this consignment sale from its inception. I was on the committee for years, when my children were little. I've dressed my [...]

How much time do you have?

How much time do you have? It seems like no matter how much time you have, it's never enough. The clock always seems to be ticking. Time is one of the most valuable commodities we all have. Last week my children both asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day. My answer was something that costs nothing, yet costs everything....time. Oh, they could have purchased me a variety of gifts, and I'm sure I would have appreciated anything they gave me, but the one thing I wanted more than anything was a bit of their time. Life seems to be on [...]

It Takes More Than Lip Service

Did you do anything fun or exciting this weekend? I had the opportunity to attend the 4Sarah Benefit Dinner. This was their first one and I would venture to say it will be an annual event. The purpose of the event was to highlight the work 4Sarah is doing in the fight against commercial sexual exploitation and ask others to partner with them financially so they can reach their goals for 2015. I love the organization, the staff and the work they do. Not only do they raise awareness, but these ladies are the rubber meets the road, boots on the [...]

Landmark Legislation Aimed at Trafficking

Did you happen to catch the national news yesterday? Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal, signed four bills into law that will help fuel the fight against human trafficking in his state. These new laws increase the penalties against perpetrators, broaden the reach of those held accountable and offer more resources for victims of this horrific crime. You can read those bills here (HB 1025, HB 569, HB 1105 and HB 1262). At the signing of the bills into law, Governor Jindal said, I am proud to sign these bills into law to help us win the war against human trafficking in Louisiana. [...]

Did you get their attention?

Does your state have a lobby day to fight against sex trafficking in the state? Georgia usually celebrates Lobby Day in February, however, due to the snowpocalyse that took place in Georgia, it was held yesterday. It is sponsored by three of the front runners in the fight against sex trafficking in Georgia: Street Grace, Wellspring Living and youthSpark. These organizations, and many others like them: raise awareness of the issue of sex trafficking train and equip volunteers to make a difference mobilize individuals to lobby for stiffer penalties for perpetrators and greater resources for victims care for survivors and [...]

Who will win the Superbowl?

Are you planning to watch the Superbowl? Who will you pull for, the Seattle Seahawks or the Denver Broncos? I don't have a pony in the race, but I will probably watch some of it for the commercials alone. Superbowl commercials are legendary. Advertising firms work endless hours trying to perfect commercials people will be talking about long after the Superbowl is over. They're looking for the perfect scenario to wow you and leave a lasting impression. Leading up to Superbowl another group of people has been trying to grasp your attention and leave a lasting impression as well.  Those [...]

What have YOU heard today?

What's God been saying to you lately? Anything? I feel confident the answer is yes. Now whether we're tuned into His frequency is another story. We have to slow down and settle ourselves to hear from Him. He tells us to, Be still and know I am God..." [Psalm 46:10] When was the last time you were still? If your world is like mine, you have to get up pretty early in the morning to find time to sit still and listen. The good news is when we do, we're in good company [Mark 1:35]. We have to be still [...]

There’s an APP for that!

What do you do when you see a young girl dressed scantily? Do you move your family as far away from her as you can, hoping they didn't notice her? Do you reach out to her, hoping to learn if she's in trouble or not? Domestic sex trafficking is a real and growing issue. We'd all like to think it only takes place in third world countries, but the reality is it takes place not only in our nation, but in our cities and neighborhoods. According to Cornell Law School's Legal Information Institute, the term sex trafficking means, the recruitment, [...]

Largest sex trafficking bust in America!

Did you see the breaking news yesterday about the largest sex trafficking bust in American history? If you missed it, you can watch it here or read about it here. It was like Rescuing Hope on steroids. From the moment the story broke, I couldn't stop thinking about those rescued: 105 girls between the ages of 13 and 17 rescued from 76 different cities 150 different pimps arrested, who held children in bondage either physically or mentally 105 families, learning their children had been rescued and were alive I welled up with emotion for the girls, for their families and for the [...]
