Does it line up?

Proof that Nanny still has a strong influence in my life. Do you sew? I am doing well to sew a button back on a shirt, but my grandmother, we called Nanny, was a phenomenal seamstress, among other things. Nanny and I loved to shop together. I remember her taking me to the Limited, which was the store to shop back in the day. She had me choose something I liked. I picked out the most beautiful skirt. It was the trend of the day. I thought she was going to buy it for me and I was very excited. [...]

Are you prepared to take a stand?

Are you standing firm in your faith? The phrase, take a stand, means: to take a position in opposition to someone or something; to oppose or resist someone or something." Many people today blast their opinions on Twitter and Facebook, simply based on what they've read online or what they've see others share. Few people take the time to investigate and find the source of the information to determine if it is accurate or not before speaking out for or against it. Yesterday, I had the privilege of listening to my daughter deliver a message to a youth group about standing [...]

Who said it?

Do you like quotes? I am a word person and I love collecting powerful quotes and chewing on the a while, as they say. While I've always loved quotes, it wasn't until a couple of years ago I purchased a journal to record quotes in that are meaningful to me. I think I stole the idea from the movie, A Walk to Remember, based on a Nicholas Sparks book by the same name. I have quotes from a variety of people like Charlie Brown, In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back." And Bob Goff, who I absolutely [...]

Show me………..

Do you like the theater? I love going to plays and I especially love musicals. My favorite is My Fair Lady. No one has ever done it like Audrey Hepburn. She was magical as Eliza Doolittle. She's such a sassy character. One of the songs she sings in the play is called Show Me. The premise of the song is don't just say you love me, demonstrate it. Just in case you haven't ever seen it:   As my mama used to say, Actions speak louder than words." In James 2:14-18 he addresses the idea actions, however, he [...]

Is it Grey or Black and White?

Are you a book person or do you prefer movies? I honestly enjoy both. Obviously, when I read the book and see the movie I am going to prefer one over the other, usually the book. I like the creative license a book gives me to make the characters look the way I want them to look and the scenery painted the way I see it in my mind's eye. There's a book that stirred up quite a controversy when it released in 2011, Fifty Shades of Grey. The conversation is being revisited because of the movie by the same [...]

What were you thinking?

Do you easily share your thoughts with others? Or do you keep them locked away in a secret place for no one but yourself? There's an old expression, A penny for your thoughts." The first time the phrase was documented in print was in the 1546 publication of John Heywood's book, The Proverbs of John Heywood. He was an English writer among other things. While you may or may not value a penny, you do need to value your thoughts and choose them carefully. God clearly states in His Word that our thoughts matter. The enemy is quite crafty and he [...]

Can I have this dance?

Did you know this Sunday is Father's Day? It will be the first time in a long time we're actually home for Father's Day. We're usually on family vacation this week. However, even though I'll be home, I have to mail my Daddy his Father's Day gift because he lives two states away. Daddy and I have a special relationship. I spend a lot of time looking for the perfect card for him. I am usually a "words" person when choosing a card, meaning I select a card that says what I want it to say more than by the [...]

How to mine for gold and ALWAYS find it.

Do you know a senior graduating this year? I know more than I can count. In fact, I have one in my home. The senior year of high school is filled with all sorts of firsts and lasts in life. It is also the year of the weening process, much life weening a child from breastfeeding. It is the time to push the baby bird out of the nest so he/she can fly on their own. One of the things our church does to celebrate the senior class is host a senior banquet just before graduation. It is a time [...]

What kind of unseen tattoos do you have?

Do you ever search on Google just for fun? A friend of mine gave me a cool word page and I wanted to learn how she did it. I searched on Google for a while, but then I just called her for the website. It's called Wordle and it is so much fun to play around with creating all kinds of cool pages. The way it works is you type words you'd like to have included in the design. The more times you type the word into the data collector, the bigger the word gets. So, for example, the word [...]

Is it a crime or just kids being kids?

Have you ever been bullied?  Bullying used to be done predominately on the playground in grade school or in the locker room in high school. You didn't hear much about it and it seemed to happen rather infrequently.  You could escape the bullying by avoiding those places as much as possible and staying with your own group of friends. Like everything else, with the advancement of technology, bullying has taken off explosively. Not only can people be bullied when they're at school or at a large gathering, but with technology, someone can be in the privacy of their own home [...]
